Dental Exams & Cleanings
What are Dental Exams & Cleanings?
All-on-4 dentures simply means that four strategically placed implants are used to keep a full denture plate in place. This prevents the denture from slipping or falling out and eliminates the need for adhesives strips or pastes. Implants are considered to be permanent, so you’ll always have a secure foundation for your dentures to fit over. You’ll find that your dentures fit and feel better, and they look more natural when implants are used to secure them.
Why would Dental Exams & Cleanings be needed?
The reason a dental exam is necessary is because it allows us to see if there are small problems that we can treat before they get larger. Catching issues early on can prevent the need for more invasive treatment. As far as cleanings, they are designed to remove tartar and heavy buildup, which would otherwise contribute to tooth decay and gum disease. Exams and cleanings are an essential part of your preventative care routine.

Who is a candidate for Dental Exams & Cleanings?
Everyone is a good candidate for exams and cleanings and should be coming into the office regularly for care. We recommend that children come in for their first appointment as soon as their baby teeth begin to come up through the gums. From that point on, it’s important to come into the office every six months for regular care. Even if it’s been years since your last appointment, we welcome you into our office so that we can begin caring for your smile.
What happens during the appointment for Dental Exams & Cleanings?
The appointment typically begins with a cleaning, which is done by our registered dental hygienist. The hygienist uses special tools to clear away tartar, which is a hardened plaque buildup that can accumulate on different areas of your teeth. The gums are then checked for signs of gum disease and your teeth polished and flossed. After the cleaning has been finished, we will examine your teeth and check for signs of damage, decay and oral cancer. The entire preventative care appointment will take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes in our office, and you’ll leave with a fresher and healthier smile.
