What is a Platelet-Rich Fibrin treatment?
PRGF, which stands for platelet-rich growth factor, is often used in surgical procedures to promote quicker and more optimal healing. By extracting your own blood and putting it through a centrifuge, we are able to separate the clotting and healing factors from all other components. We then inject or place these factors into areas where healing is needed. The process can be used for all types of oral surgeries including extractions, sinus lifts, jaw surgery, dental implants, and bone and soft tissue grafting.

Who is a candidate for Platelet-Rich Fibrin treatment?
Most of our patients are good candidates for platelet-rich fibrin treatment. We will review your health and medical history prior to suggesting this treatment. You should be healthy enough to have blood drawn in the office. This platelet-rich fibrin treatment is ideal for patients who have a hard time healing after oral surgery.
What can you expect when the Platelet-Rich Fibrin Machine is in use?
You will be seated comfortably in one of our operatories. We will then take a vial of blood using typical venipuncture procedures. This blood is placed into a machine known as a centrifuge. This machine spins the blood at a high speed to separate the different elements. The platelet-rich plasma is then extracted independently. We then use this plasma during the procedure and place it directly into the surgical site. This will help the area to both heal as well as prevent infection once you leave the office.
