Dental Crowns (Ceramic / Porcelain / Same Day CEREC)
What are Dental Crowns?
A dental crown is designed to cover a tooth that has been damaged or otherwise compromised. Crowns can be made of porcelain or ceramic, and we even offer same-day CEREC crowns to our patients. A crown can last for many years or even decades with the proper care. These restorations are designed to mimic the feel and look of one of your natural teeth.
Why might a Dental Crown be needed?
There are several reasons for needing a dental crown. The crown might be needed if you’ve broken, damaged or fractured a tooth. We will typically recommend a crown after a tooth has been root canaled, since it’ll be more susceptible to breaking. If a tooth has a large area of decay or filling in it, we might eventually recommend that it be crowned.

Who is a candidate for a Dental Crown?
The best way for us to determine if you need a dental crown is with an examination. The exam allows us to see if any of your teeth have been damaged and if so, if a crown is the best choice for you. If you need a crown, it’s important to have the restoration placed to prevent further damage to the tooth. If you have an older crown that needs to be replaced, we can remove it and place a new one in our office.
What happens during the Dental Crown procedure?
The procedure will begin with anesthetic, which is used to numb one whole area of your mouth. We then file down and shape the tooth to properly fit the new crown. We take impressions and use these to make the permanent crown. Depending on the type of crown that is made, you may need to come in for a second appointment. We offer same-day CEREC crowns that are made for you while you wait. These types of crowns prevent the need for a second appointment. Your new crown is meant to last for one to two decades depending on how much wear it receives.
